There are a number of signs which could indicate that a person may benefit from speech pathology. These include:

- Difficulty listening, completing tasks and following directions
- The use of incorrect grammar or words in a sentence
- Frustration or difficulty when trying to express themselves
- Attention and concentration difficulties
- Difficulty with voice quality, loudness and awareness
- Behavioural problems
- Difficulty eating and swallowing
- Limited diet due to picky eating
