INDICATIONS THAT A PERSON MAY BENEFIT FROM SPEECH PATHOLOGY

There are a number of signs which could indicate that a person may benefit from speech pathology. These include:

  • Difficulties reading or writing
  • Mispronouncing words
  • Difficulty listening, completing tasks and following directions
  • The use of incorrect grammar or words in a sentence
  • Frustration or difficulty when trying to express themselves
  • Attention and concentration difficulties
  • Difficulty with voice quality, loudness and awareness
  • Behavioural problems
  • Difficulty eating and swallowing
  • Limited diet due to picky eating

Although the above indicators are commonly seen in children, speech pathology support is also useful for adults. Speech pathologists can support communication following stroke or traumatic brain injury, educating professionals such as teachers on healthy voice use and so much more.
