Assessments
Assessment is always the first step in identifying areas that would benefit from intervention.
At Glenelg Allied Health Clinic we offer a range of formal diagnostic assessments for all ages. Learn about our available assessment services below and find out how they may be able to assist.
AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER (ASD) ASSESSMENTS
ASD is a common pervasive developmental disorder which can impact an individual’s development across several areas compared to others at the same age or developmental level. Click here to learn more.
We offer single and dual ASD assessments with a highly qualified speech pathologist and psychologist. To support an application for NDIS funding, a dual assessment is required. Contact us for more information.
FEEDING ASSESSMENTS
Feeding assessments are facilitated by our speech pathologist, Christine Weir. The assessment process is dependent on the client’s age, and can be administered from birth to adulthood. Feeding assessments are commonly recommended for clients with the following complexities:
- Difficulties breastfeeding
- Infant Dysphagia (swallowing difficulties)
- Picky or fussy eaters
- Food aversion
- Avoidant / restrictive food intake disorder
Following the assessment, ongoing feeding therapy may be beneficial. Alternatively, speech pathologists can make recommendations for home.
Additionally, if the feeding assessment determines a client will require modified food or fluid consistencies, Christine is able to create an oral eating and drinking care plan (OEDCP). After the plan is made, Christine can complete child care or school visits to educate them on how best to support your child at mealtimes. Contact us for more information.
PSYCHO-EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENTS
A psycho-educational assessment is a comprehensive evaluation of a child’s cognitive functioning, intellectual capacity and current level of academic knowledge, facilitated by a psychologist.
Following the assessment process, a written report is provided that can help parents and educators understand the child’s abilities, and how they can support a successful educational experience. Contact us for more information.
SPEECH AND LANGUAGE ASSESSMENTS
Speech pathologists can provide assessment in all areas of communication. Initial speech and language assessments will differ depending on the client’s presenting concerns. Assessments are a way for our speech pathologists to understand the person’s needs before commencement of ongoing therapy. Contact us for more information.
